Downlink Beamforming for Dynamic Metasurface Antennas

Dynamic metasurface antennas (DMAs) have great potential to be used in the radiator/receptor elements of future wireless transmitters and receivers, replacing conventional metallic antennas. This can attributed their unique properties, such as ability reconfigured real-time reduce radio frequency chains, resulting low implementation cost. However, Lorentzian constraint associated with DMA poses a challenge configuration limits application DMA. In this study, we propose DMA-based network, wherein DMA-equipped base station (BS) communicates single multiple users. For single-user scenario, develop an optimal algorithm maximize signal-to-noise ratio user, which provides weight each element closed form. Furthermore, for users, formulate weighted sum rate (WSR) problem employ techniques from case efficient alternating optimization algorithm, optimizes both transmit precoders weights, enhance WSR system under power BS. The numerical results demonstrate effectiveness proposed algorithms achieving better performance than that benchmark schemes.
